Joseph, a carpenter from Nazareth, was engaged to Mary. Before they lived together, the Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that God had chosen her to be the mother of His son. Mary accepted, and became the Mother of Jesus. An angel told Joseph in a dream, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary into your home." When Joseph awoke, he obeyed, and took Mary as his wife. They journeyed to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. Some time later, an angel again spoke to Joseph in a dream, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt!" Joseph obeyed. Later, they returned to Nazareth, where Joseph and Mary raised Jesus. Joseph taught Jesus to be strong and good, and he died before Jesus began his ministry.
Saint Joseph's feast day is March 19th, and is the patron saint of fathers as well as homes.
Fashioned after the carving and painting style of the bestselling Bellavista statues from Milagros
