St. Bridget was a convert to Christianity during the time of St. Patricks missionary work. On one occasion, the chieftain of the village was fatally ill. St. Bridget, according to a traditional Irish legend, began weaving a cross out of the thatches on the floor by his bedside. The sick man curiously asked the meaning of what she was doing. After listening to her explanation, the chieftain was miraculously cured and eventually baptized by St. Patrick.
