St. Florian served Rome’s military as a commander and leader of the fire brigade. Once, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, he was ordered to offer sacrifice to Roman deities. This he refused on account of his conversion to Christianity. He was consequently sentenced to being drowned in the Enns river, thus dying a martyr’s death. He is invoked as the powerful patron saint and protector of firefighters. This firefighter’s medal features a detailed relief of St. Florian, contained within a traditional Maltese cross, used as the firefighters’ insignia (also known as the St. Florian Cross). Inscribed are the letters “FD”, indicating “Fire Department”, and an invocation which reads: “St. Florian, protect us.” The medal is available in well-finished sterling silver or exquisite gold and is available in the following sizes: - Small (1.7 cm across) - Large (2.5 cm across) It makes a suitable gift for loved ones serving in the fire department! Your purchase will come in a gift box and include an 18 inch stainless steel chain. If you would like a different size chain please indicate in the "comment section" which measurement you prefer [18", 20", 24", 27", or 30"].
